In 1863, Cordova, once a barrio of Opon, now Lapu-lapu City, was establish as a new town. The decree from Spain ordered Governor Concuera to organize the town so Mr. Benidexto Wahing, a native of Sitio Poblacion was chosen Capitan of the town, during this time the Sitio Poblacion was under the Barangay Day-as and only 3 Barangay were identified yet(Barangay Day-as, Barangay Pilipog and Barangay Gabi.

In 1864, the Cordova parish aws organized and the parochial convent was started in 1891-1893 and was finished in 1896 at Sitio Poblacion, one which became the seat of the municipllity’s political, religious and economic activities.

The years that followed were the years of struggles and herioc sacrifices of the few Cordovanhon leaders, specifically from Sitio Poblacion, one whom was Juan Nuñez.

In August 3, 1901, under the American regime, Julio Llorente, Governor of Cebu ordered the election in Cordova. Carlos Sumalinog won the election by viva voice but his term did not last long for killed Because of the incident, Cordova lost its representative again and it was like a barrio for it had no more voice in the provincial assembly. Even if Cordova had no representative, it was divided into barrios following the Provincial Board Ordinancein 1901. The barrios were POBALCION, Buangsong, Day-as, Gabi, Ibabao, Catarman, Pilipog and Cogon.

There was no folklore why Poblacion got its name. The reason is that Poblacion, during the Spanish time, means the center of all the political, religious and economic activities of the town. It is where the Municipal Hall, the Parish Church, Convent, Municipal Plaza, Cordova Elemtary School, Public Narket, Sports and Cultural Center are situated. As a whole it is the seat of the Municipal Government of Cordova.
