Three Cultural HR Issues

Many companies feel that having an HR representative is not necessary so they just hire an outside source for hiring their new employees. This has become a cultural issue because every company needs an HR representative in order to run the policy portion of the company. Human Resource is not just about hiring employees like some companies believe. There is much more to this department like implementing company policies, company benefits, worker compensation, employee and company safety, etc. PepsiCo has a good size HR department that helps the company tremendously with all the company needs.

There are many HR concerns about the aging workforce that can affect a company is many ways which could consist of law suits, recruitment, training, medical, safety, and health. It was known that in the 50’s that discrimination raises a labor cost which punishes the company that discriminates. Companies look at the aging population in many ways like for older workers there will likely be 2.2 times more health costs for the company compared to the younger workers. This is a concern for many older people who try to get a job because the companies see the risk of paying too much health benefits when hiring the employees ("Aicpa Store", 2001-2012).

Cultural Awareness is an understanding of how individual’s cultures may inform their behavior, basic assumptions, values, and beliefs. It recognizes the shape of individual’s cultural background, and helps you to explore all cultural issues with the care recipients being more sensitive. Cultural awareness also shows the understanding of the migration process which is a key influence on one person’s life ("Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing", 2010).
