I. Introduction

This applied research project will further examine AGL Resources (Nicor) human resource management systems (HRMS) modules and the benefit of using a online database/modules that can collect, improve report generation, portal for self service instead of paper track, improving accuracy and time efficiency and also the integrity of an individual. This paper will discuss how the implementation of different HRMS modules and web-based implementation will Nicor employees and other departments will benefit from this research being done. The research done will prove how some of the existing day-to-day functions done by human resources can improve can be easily integrated with the help of these web based modules. To conclude this research paper will offer recommendation on how the implementation of the web based modules impact on other companies and then used in Nicor systems today.

II. Definition of Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS)

Human Resource Management System (HRMS) or Human Resource Information System (HRIS), refers to the systems and processes at the intersection between human resource management (HRM) and information technology. It merges HRM as a discipline and in particular its basic HR activities and processes with the information technology field, whereas the programming of data processing systems evolved into standardized routines and packages of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. The HR function consists of tracking existing employee data that traditionally includes personal histories, skills, capabilities, accomplishments and salary. To reduce the manual workload of these administrative activities, organizations began to electronically automate many of these processes by introducing specialized Human Resource Management Systems.
