Definition and History of Business

The Spa @ GSB is a very simple Beauty Salon offering essential, skilled and professional services and products initially in hair care, nail care and waxes. This will add to the complement of school’s services to be opened for business in September 2008. The company is owned by six (6) members of EMBA Cohort 18 at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business.

The history of Spas are know since the ancient Roman times as baths and hot springs, there is no existing prove where the word spa emanated. However there are two theories the first is that spa is an acronym for the Latin phrase, ‘salus per aquae,’ or “health through water” or from the Belgium town of Spa, famous for it water baths. This town became very prominent for the services offered that the word spa became synonymous in the English language with a place to be pampered and restored.

In the 19th century, only the wealthy in Europe visited the prominent spas to “take the water” and restore their health. There water treatments are the hearth of a spa experience as experience in Germany for world cup 2006 “body wash”. However in the western world to-day massages and facials are the popular spa treatments.

Modern International definition of Spa is a facility or entity ‘devoted to enhancing overall well-being through a variety of professional services that encourage the renewal of mind, body and sprit’. (Wikipedia)

The Spa @ GSB offers beauty consultations and services, located within the convenience and security of the school facility. The clientele is quite obvious and comprises primarily faculty and student members. We will be providing a comfortable and affordable relaxed environment where our products and services will enhance their appearance and take away some of the stresses of the day.
