1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes.

MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter are a few different from of social media in today’s world, and they all allow people to stay connected to each other without waiting for ‘snail mail’ or having a high phone bill. MySpace and Facebook are similar to each other, but “MySpace has turned more into a site for musicians to promote, launch, and sell their music” according to Campbell on page 53 of chapter two. Twitter allows people to stay connected with up-to-date posts of what they are going through. All three of these sites allow users to upload pictures, post messages, and create a profile.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society?

There are many benefits of social media sites and the top one is to allow people to stay connected on a daily basis that live far from one another, but they also keep people connected that live locally to each other. Another benefit of these sites is that more and more people are able to meet new people from around the world that we normally would not meet. Also, these social media sites have helped, and still are helping, to keep military families stay connected to each other during overseas or in state deployments.

3. What are the greatest problems of social media for individuals and society?

Some of the greatest problems of social media sites are the privacy issues and predators lurking on the internet, and these were concerns of many parents, school and law enforcement officials.
