If an advertisement is printed on paper, be it newspapers, magazines, newsletters, booklets, flyers, direct mail, or anything else that would be considered a portable printed medium, then it comes under the banner of print advertising.

It's hard to say exactly how old print advertising actually is. There are examples of printed pieces dating back to early Egyptian times. In 17 th century England, several different forms of advertisements appeared in newspapers and on handbills. But the general consensus is that print advertising as we know it today started life in 1836, when a French newspaper called La Presse charged for advertisements and lowered the price of the newspaper. This is the birth of commercial press.

This star buck addepicts first concept “figure and ground”. The reason being because the ground picture of this advertisement is very hazy and unclear. The background has dim lights, with some shades of light brown and some with dark brown depicting. At the first glance you can’t figure out the ground, it will look like some hazy image, but looking closely into the ground you can see shades of chairs, which tells you that it can be a restaurant or home, etc. The figure in this advertisement the star buck cup of coffee, is clear, evident and focused too. The cup is a take-away cup, which tells that how Starbucks is important that you take out as well as sit in the restaurant and drink. The next thing on the advertisement is the add tag line “the best coffee for the best you” which gives you a very positive feeling while reading it. it gives u a slight motivational towards consuming Starbucks because it’s the “best of you” as “you” is written in the bigger font and different color to stand it out.

The other elements in this add is also, “closure”. Because the cup of coffee if zoomed and it’s the first thing it catches your eye while going through the advertisement. The logo on the cup is also a closure so people can figure out at...
