Births occur almost every second around the world. In the UK the number of births has dramatically changed in the past century. This is due to a number of reasons, which this essay will focus and explain on, as well as the trends in birth rates in the United Kingdom since 1900.

Birth rates are the number of live births per thousand of population per year.

The number of birth rates in the United Kingdom has declined throughout the century, interrupted only by the two posts –war ‘baby boobs’ and a secondary peak in the 1960’s. A baby boom is any period marked by a greatly increased birth rate. The period in which a baby boom occurred was between 1946 and 1964 in the UK. This was due to the arrival of the husbands from war. Therefore women had the chance to have babies before the husbands went back to fight. Most couples became pregnant with their first child within 7 months of their wedding; between 1940 to 1960, the number of families with three children doubled and the number of families having a fourth child quadrupled. Another reasons for the women reproducing a lot was, because at the time women This meat the birth rate had increased immensely.

Since 1900 births rates have gradually decreased in 2001 the average was 1.64 but by 2008 it was 1.97.

There are advantages and disadvantages for a child to grow up in the countryside or in a city. It’s hard to say which better is. Growing up in the countryside means a certain degree of isolation. You’re in a small town or on a farm with few people. In addition, the people you meet everyday tend to be just like you. Most have the same background with you, and go to the same schools with you. In the city, people you meet are all different. People come from different culture backgrounds.

City people tend to come from a lot of different places and move around a lot. So, there is not a sense of community in the city like what you have in the countryside. People in the city can live in the same apartment...
