Three HeArts of Love- A Season of Dance

Dance is a Fine Art that is most commonly described as movement of the body to rhythms and other forms of music. Dance is in large part a medium of expressing and evicting emotions, as well as encouraging social collaboration. Dance is one of the most useful and notable ways of non-verbal communication amongst humans, animals and even inanimate entities of nature. Bahamian culture not only embraces cuisine and festivals but it also encompasses the arts of choral speaking as well as dance. Furthermore, on January 14th, 2012, The Bahamas Dance Theatre Company, Cultural Ambassadors of the Bahamas was more than pleased to present to its audience its 5th Season Dance Concert under the theme Three HeArts with Love”. The aforementioned dance concert was held at The National Centre for the Performing Arts located on Shirley Street, Nassau Bahamas at 7 pm.

The Bahamas Dance Theatre Company’s annual performance since 2009 is in an effort to help promote arts and culture through dance and theatre in the Bahamas. The entire event was the brainchild of BDTC founder and artistic director Mr. Mervin A. Smith. The concert was an opportunity for audiences to observe the raw and natural talents of two emerging male dancers and choreographers Denton H. Gray and Mychal Bryan who are both making educational and performance pursuits in New York and Jamaica. In addition to the previous dancers mentioned the stage was also shared with five other company members. It also served as a presentation for guest mime artist Lenelle Sawyer of Lenelle Michelle Mime & Co and recording artist and songwriter Talbert Williams to display their talents.

Three HeArts with Love showcase opened firstly with the singing of the Bahamas’ national anthem. The showcase was divided into 3 different segments. The first segment included choreography to Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts”, music by the Bahamian band T-Connection as well as “Call the Law”...
