After reviewing the process of finding the best wire for our product, several principles have been violated. The process should have taken a much different path. Instead of the engineers being marketed the products, they should have been marketed to the purchasing department. Engineers are not trained on how to see through the fluff that sales people add into the description of the product. They are easily swayed for the wrong reasons. The required specification of the wire should have been delivered to the purchasing department first and then they should take it from there.

Once the purchasing department has the specifications, they then can call numerous suppliers to get samples and price quotations. The samples then should then be thoroughly tested to see which ones qualify the best with the given specifications. These steps were done out of order in regards to the wiring needed for our company. Also, the step of calculating financial risks of using each supplier and obtaining third party information needs to be added to the process. Since Advanced Wire was the first company to produce it, what are the reviews from people who have actually used it? Could it be possible that other companies are not producing it because it is not a practical type of wire?

After calculating the total costs of the types of wires we needed, Advanced Wire came out as $203,460 more than Easternhouse. When looking back at the testing results to see if there is a justification to spend that much, we found nothing. We saw that even though all of the wires were superior, the company that the engineers wanted ended up being inferior in certain qualifications compared to others. All results were still acceptable, but they were of a lower grade.

The most important thing we are forgetting is that there is no one best way. In this situation we may not be able to source portions from each of the companies due to Advanced Wire having the ceramic while Easternhouse...
