Fat & Water-Soluble Vitamins

The body can not make or synthesize vitamins on it’s own, we need to take in the vitamins that our body needs either from food we eat or from things we drink. Vitamins are classified into two groups. They are known as Fat Soluble Vitamins and Water Soluble Vitamins. Fat soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E, and K. They are soluble in lipids, which is known as fats and are absorbed in fat globules called chylomicroms. They travel through the lymphatic system located in the small intestines and then into the blood to circulate throughout the body. Vitamins A and E are stored in the body tissues. A person can get hypervitaminosis which is dangerous. That’s when there is too much vitamins in the body. A person gets that if there is to much fat in what they eat, vitamins A and E generally stays in the body tissues. If a person does not take in the required amount of fat soluble vitamins in their body, tit would interfere with the absorption of fat from the intestines.

Vitamins C (citric acid), B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B9 (pyridoxine), B12 (cobalamin), Cholin, and Biotin are water soluble vitamins. We need to constantly replenish our body with these vitamins because our body does not store the required amounts, instead these vitamins are flushed out of our systems as urine. By taking vitamin supplements, it’s safe for our body to consume large amounts of these, but mega doses can be fatal as well as have side effects. Water soluble vitamins constantly has to be replenished in our body because we absorb a small amount of these as it passes through our system.
