Employee Training Logostop Analysis and Needs

Every company should have some sort of plan in place to train and develop their employees. Small businesses especially need to have a program in place to train and cross train the few employees they hire. Because one person leaving can be critical to the business it is important to have the tools in place to bring on new talent without too much upset to the routines. This is what a small business in my hometown desperately needs to incorporate.

My friend’s mother owns a small business called Logostop in Albertville, Minnesota. I have been a regular customer and have also seen how everything runs behind the scenes. She has employed her children and local high schoolers. Jan Capps, the owner has been losing these high schoolers every year to college and each time, there is chaos in the building. She finds herself working eighty plus hours per week due to the lack of help. She has also expressed that she is frustrated with the type of help she recruits every year. She finds that they lack the knowledge and skills needed to help run her shop, and as a result customer service is marginal at best.

I expressed to Jan that I believed that training and development may help to remedy the problem and asked for some specifics about the company. Training can improve output, recruiting, and raise retention (Oasis Outsourcing 2012). In the following assessment I will find what her needs are, if implementing a training program will work, and why it is important to train new employees.
