The cactus is a survivor and I am a survivor too. All of us are survivors. If we are a cactus, we are vulnerable to storms, whatever kind they may be because God has provided for our protection and defense. Here is where we will depart from identifying with the cactus. God values us more than any other created thing. We can face each uncertain day with the knowledge that if a storm comes our way, He will be there for us. With this knowledge, comes peace.

If we get washed away by flash floods, He will pick us up and plant us back into the ground, guiding our roots to the nearest rock, that we may be anchored again. If we get burned, He will soothe us with the salve of His love, and we will survive to live for His glory.

Storms in this life can come at us with little or no warning. You lose your job. You or a loved one is struck with a sudden illness. Someone you love is taken from you in a sudden and tragic accident. Your spouse announces he or she wants a divorce. Many, many storms assail us. But a cactus comes out freshly green in spite of the storms it encounters as well as we are able to sleep peacefully through any storm, knowing that God is with us, keeping us safe, even if circumstances are scary in those stormy times.

God is God in every situation. He loves us and He values us. Jesus demonstrated that He is able to take us through any storm. Nothing is impossible with God. If we believe, we may have peace. And we will be able to ride out every storm. Amen?
