Conclusion

Keeping your private information safe on the internet these days can be a real challenge. With so many threats in the cyber world it’s hard to know what is safe and what isn’t. We have to worry about everything from viruses to spam, from Trojan horses to worms, not to mention cyber stalkers. I will cover three threats that are prevalent in today’s cyber world.

According to Mcafee.com in June 2012 the total number of bad URLs or malicious websites was at over 36 million, with over 2.7 million new bad URLs a month. These sites are specifically designed to infect your computer with Trojan horses and keystroke loggers. They do this in an attempt to steal you private information, such as credit card numbers and bank account information. If you are not extremely careful theses cyber criminals will steal you blind.

According to k-state.edu, another internet security danger is e-mail. E-mail security risks include attachments, scams, viruses, worms, spyware, adware, and hidden or devious links to bad websites. Sometimes being able to identify a scam can be quite tricky, so the best thing to do is don’t give out your personal info to anyone online, and if an email seems fishy don’t open it. Just like malicious websites, e-mail scams can also be aimed at stealing your private information.

Social networking is as common today as eating or brushing your teeth, and so are the security risks that go along with it. Yet we tend to share more of our personal lives and information on sites such as Facebook, and Twitter than we do with our own families.
