Effective Management in an Organization

The main objective in an organization is making a profit by producing a saleable good or service that satisfies an organization’s needs. Effective Management in an organization is the key factor in achieving this goal. Management is a critical factor in an organization because it utilizes the manpower, money, and materials to function as a whole. Management’s lack of success can make or break an organization. In order to maximize profits and meet the needs of consumers, effective Management must be initiated, and utilized. Three obstacles in achieving success in Management are inadequate planning, lack of leadership skills, and poor interpersonal skills.

The most important function of Management is planning. “Planning is the process whereby an individual or an organization identifies opportunities, needs, strategies, objectives, and policies that are used to guide and manage the organization through future periods” (Karger 94). When a Manager fails to plan, they are headed for disaster. Alan Lakein’s famous quote says it best, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” For instance, when an organization is started, management in the organization has to decide what type of product or service it will promote. Without an initial plan, there is not any product or service to promote. Without product or service, profits can not be produced. Without profits, an organization can not operate because it lacks capital. Therefore, Strategic Planning is essential in making any organization a success. Strategic planning is a plan used to establish and develop goals, objectives, and implement process for this task.
