Argument and Logic

When examining each of these stories, they each have clear arguments for each theory. When looking at the theory, On Rabbits and Motion, Zeno argues that motion is impossible. Zeno uses rabbits as his example, saying that there are two anti-arguments. To sum up the first, Zeno says the rabbit, or object would have to travel an infinite amount of time to move anywhere. To further break that down, in order for the rabbit to get from point A to point B, he would have to reach the half way mark. Before reaching the half way mark, he would have to reach the quarter mark, and so and so forth. In his second argument, for the rabbit to move from point A to point B again, it must at each moment in travel occupy space that is equal to its length. But when a thing occupies the space that it is equal to its length, it is at rest. While looking at these two arguments, I find flaw in both statements. Even if the rabbit has to travel infinite places to reach point B, he will still reach point B. Unless there is an unknown force that stops the rabbit for reaching point B, then after a period of time the rabbit will reach point B. With the second argument, that in order to travel you have to occupy space that is equal to your length but if you do this, then you’re in rest. While traveling, you will always occupy space that is equal to your length, because your shape doesn’t change while moving.

The second argument talks about free will versus determinism. This argument states that the behavior of atoms is governed entirely by physical law, and that humans have free will. Most people would tend to accept both of these arguments, yet they do not always get along. The breakdown on this argument is that atoms are all governed by physical law, and that if they were not meant to do something, then they won’t. While humans still have free thought, so if I want to pick up my glass, I move my arm towards the glass. I am able to control my arm out of my own will,...
