Overview of India

Travel across the globe and one will find a large country that inhabits 1.2 billion people. India is a country located in Southeast Asia with its capital named New Delhi. It is the second largest by population and the most populous democracy in the world. India also ranks as the seventh largest country in the world. It lies midway between the Far East and the Middle East. Having an advantageous position for trade, India both dominates the Indian Ocean and commands a strategic position for foreign trade. It covers 3,287,590 square kilometers of area in Southeast Asia. India is also made up of frontier land mass (15,200 km) and mountainous Northern borders as well as the enormous amount of coastline (7,519 km)(Wikipedia).

India’s economy is growing and improving every year. Over the next five years India will eventually become Asia’s greatest exporter and importer with average growth of five to seven percent per year (Ibef). This is a positive aspect of India’s economy, which brings in $11 billion in equities and $4.7 billion in debt investments each year (Ibef).

In India, women are not given the same equality as men. They are malnourished, yet they have to bear the children. They complete all of the household and field work, but most are uneducated (Tripod). Men are worshiped because they are allowed to be educated, get a good job, and support their family. Girls are seen only as home-makers and child-bearers, nothing more.

India has a diverse wildlife population. It is a country that wants to protect and preserve its animals. Therefore it has 482 wildlife sanctuaries. India is known for the tiger and it should be as it has the largest tiger population in the world at approximately 4,000. However, the tiger is still in danger of extinction.
