When a user uses a computer, a single click can send a whole line of coding and computer data through the hardware, motherboard and memory. An operating system have made computers easier, faster and appealing to the eye. The operating system is to provide a set of functions needed and used by most applications and provide the necessary linkages to control a computer hardware (Donahue, A).

Back in the day when computer was first thought about they lacked operating system of any form. So when the users wanted to use the computer, it was only the user and computer. Without an operating system the user had to load their own program and then the user would be able to work. Over the years the operating system have evolved through a number of different phases such as in the 1940’s programs was entered in one bit at a time, talking about time consuming, in the 1950’s this was called single-stream batch because the programs was processed the data in groups or batches. The 1960’s the system were the data was still processed in batches but have a better advantage of the computer’s resources by running several batches at a time. It amazing how technology has grown over the years and still growing (History of Operating Systems).

Some of the first operating system was General Motor Research laboratories that implemented the first operating system IBM 701. Then you had UNIX, Window, LINUX and many others that were on the market. But down the line there was only one operating system really became very popular and was used everywhere Windows. Windows is one of most successful operating systems that is used to this date. One of the first windows operating system was available in 1983. There were many versions windows 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, but the system really hit the peak when they release 3.0 because the system had icons, built-in games and network access for large businesses.
