Topic proposal: AMR Corporation v. United Continental Holding Inc.

The understanding of change management in relation to the organizational change is presented upon reading this paper. I select the AMR Corporation and United Continental Holding for this course project. These organizations are public companies that have a market share, and have suffered drastic organizational changes during the last decade. These companies give details and describe how companies select the appropriate approach to address the issue that demands change management.

AMR Corporation is the parent company of American Airline. This company was forced to file a bankruptcy protection and change their management team especially their CEO, Gerard Arpey for Thomas W. Horton, who’s make changes like cutting jobs and incrementing their subsidiaries and divisions. By 2012 the changes made where many; however it appears like they have not been very effective and accepted by consumers and stakeholders. This company has not posted a profit since 2007 to 2011, but stakeholders are waiting for the 2012 report. On the other hand there is the United Continental Holding Inc. This company also files for bankruptcy and makes different changes that go from restructuring their management team and doing a company merging to increment their profit percentage. I had selected these two companies because both had been affected by the same external elements and had selected different changing management images to solve the problem caused by these elements. I also believe that these two companies will help me to understand the importance of selecting the best change management image to implement a change needed in order to reach a company’s goal.
