In the “,Moneys Paw” by W.W. Jacobs, “Those Three Wishes” by Judith Gorog and “Auntie Misery” by Judith Ortiz Cofer they all involve wishes gone wrong. In all the stories listed above the outcome is terrible. In the “monkeys paw”, Herbert wished for two hundred pounds to pay off his house, he got the money but he played a great consequence “He was caught in the machinery, said the visitor. But in consideration of your son’s services, they wish to present you with a certain sum as compensation, of two hundred pounds”. In “Auntie Misery”, Auntie Misery was an old woman and Death was ready to take her, she then trapped Death in her pear tree and refused to let him go, because she wanted to live forever, she didn’t think of what would happen after.”Death: if he promised not ever to come for her again, she would give him freedom. He agreed. And that’s why you can count on running into two things in this world; death and misery”. Lastly, in “Those Three Wishes” Melinda came along this Magic Snail who offered her 3 wishes, he first wish was asking the snail for the next 1,000 wishes to come true, she was greedy. Then without knowing she wished- “Oh no! Grimed Melinda Alice, her thoughts raced; that stupid Snail made me late and I forgot to study. I’m going to blow the test. I wish I were dead “The message the authors were trying to send the reader was,

” You must earn what you want in life”
