TYPE OF MOVIE

A musical is a genre of movie where the music takes a big importance.

The story can be developed with songs and most of the time, there are choreographies.

We count many famous American musicals like: Dirty dancing, Grease, Chicago, Moulin Rouge! Etc.

Now, I would like to present my favorite musical: Moulin Rouge !

Release date

It came out the 3 October 2001 at the cinema in France.

Genre

This movie is a musical but also a drama and a romance.

Location

The movie is set in France, in Paris, in the 1890’s.

Storyline

A young English poet, Christian arrives in Paris in 1899. He is chosen by Toulouse-Lautrecand his theater to write a play for the cabaret Moulin Rouge and falls in love with a courtesan called Satine who dreams to become an actress. The problem is that the investor of the play, the Duke, is in love with Satine too so it induces a love triangle. The director of the cabaret, Mr Zidler obliges Satine to leave Christian because he is afraid the cabaret goes bankrupt if the Duke cancels his investment.

The play written by Christian is inspired by his love story with Satine.

The Duke threatens to kill Christian if he doesn’t change the end of the play. Indeed, in the script of the play, the Indian courtesan played by Satine marries a poor player of sitar instead of choosing the maharajah.

The evening of the première, the two lovers sing their secret song to show their love in front of everyone. The Duke turns mad and tries to kill Christian with a gun but the poet is saved by the dancers.

Satine dies of the tuberculosis behind the scene and makes Christian to promise that he will write their story, thing that he does at the beginning of the movie.
