Abstract

Job analysis, job design, and job descriptions are an essential part of an organization and human resources and share an equal level of importance when it comes to job performance and success in the workplace. All three result in somewhat of a revolving domino effect. Without a proper job design, a job analysis will show faulty processes and issues making it difficult to formulate a proper job description. Without a proper job description, the company and HR will come across difficulties not only holding employees accountable to the company’s standards but recruiting vacant positions within the company identifying reasonable expectations for the employee or improvise duties and responsibilities as necessary. Each of the three processes goes hand in hand and if implemented correctly can greatly impact the recruitment and workforce strategies.

Importance of Job Study

Job analysis or study can be conducted for a number of reasons. It can be used in training to help employees develop and better understand their jobs. In many organizations, employees are not always tasked with job duties that they were hired for or their job duties expand based on the needs of the service. While it’s often necessary to pick up the “slack” when a section is short staffed, management needs to be careful about doing so on a long term basis because some tasks may be out of the scope of their job specifications and employees may feel jilted at not being properly compensated for their additional tasks.
