I believe Dining etiquette in terms of building a strong business relationship are extremely important. To be able to follow a certain cultures table etiquettes and showing them that you are an individual that respects all cultures and backgrounds makes them feel comfortable and helps them develop a personal bond with you which is extremely important when it comes to clients. I hold the position of “Director of Sales” and I am expected to maintain a healthy relationship with my clients and thee only way I am able to do so I by giving them respect in every aspect of their lives. Many times I will have conversations that involve their personal family matters and such conversations help me build a relationship with them which in the long run allows me to gain majority of their business throughout the year. If I was to travel to Austria and ended up having a few drinks with my present or potential future client, being aware of their tradition of looking directly into the eyes of the person across from you when having drinks would definitely impress them and make them appreciate the fact that I went out of my way to create a homely environment for them. I am from Pakistan and most of our culture is influenced by our religion. In our culture it is considered bad manners to leave food in your plate because it shows that you do not appreciate the food that God has blessed you with and that someone needy would do anything to have that meal. If I was to travel to China and continue my cultural ways, most likely I would ended up offending half the restaurants as well as any potential clientel.
