Lab Report

1. What are the business goals? (10 points)

To expand the network to meet its expanding and growing campus. To centralize the network so that the network can run more smoothly such as centralized backups.

2. What are the business constraints? (10 points)

The school is utilizing its revenue from property taxes and bonds that must deliver the required improvements but with a very strict budget, suggesting that affordability is more important than the best technical solution.

3. What are the technical goals? (10 points)

Improve network performance by increasing the amount of users that can access the network and speed. Improve scalability and simplify network management by centralizing servers and the performance of back-ups. Modernize outdated technologies such as replacing the old PBX system with a VoIP based system.

4. What are the technical constraints? (10 points)

The existing equipment such as the CAT5 cable should be replace with CAT6 at every drop and Fiber Optics should replace each uplink at the core. The campus should replace or upgrade its existing ISP or service so that its bandwidth is consist with campus needs for more speed and easy access. Since the current network is still utilizing IPv4 it should provide compatibility for IPv6. The school must also take into consideration the cost of training personal on the new network.

Currently, the network setup makes for a very time consuming back-up and maintenance. The network currently uses IPv4 Class C scheme and these address are issued through DHCP. Wireless internet is accessed through a hotspot in a pole by every building. Each building also has it own DSL connection from the ISP.
