It begins by explaining a little bit about what humor actually is. Describing it as a elastic polarity because it can operate on opposites such as confirming or denying, oppressing or liberating. I agreed with that description of humor because I too believe that humor is based solely on the audiences perception. The audience takes their own personal experiences and makes a connection with a joke. The article also discusses that humor is used in our lives as a way of making light of the dark situations. It takes our culture as a whole and dissects the parts that we could improve. The minorities listed above us this strategy to be able to speak about their stereotypes and prove them false. By making light of the situation, they become the person in power. They use language as a weapon to change the minds of their aggressors. The article also brings up the stereotype that women don’t have a sense of humor. Women were insulted and labeled with the inability to comprehend humor, however they were supposed to still laugh at male humor? Leave it to men to not even have a descent excuse for why they criticize women. Feminists took humor as a opportunity to prove to the world that they can tell a joke. They were able to show their independence and tell men that they have something to learn from the females.
