Facebook is currently the leading social network. Over 8 million people use this network to socialize. It is impossible to deny the advantages of Facebook. It unites people, helps them find their friends and keep in touch with them. It contributes much to the exchange of information. However, this practice is not secure from criminal minded predators, and a person’s privacy can be easily invaded. There many social problems associated with the use of facebook. Some of the social problems associated with the use of facebook are online privacy, child safety, and the inability to fully delete an account.

Facebook is vulnerable to hijacking. It is an immense database with the personal information of millions of people. The access to this information might lead to different pernicious effects. Identity theft is one of them. Using your name and personal data a criminal might do almost anything they want to obtain a credit or goods and services. Committing of crimes under somebody else’s name is very common today. Many people do not even suspect that their personal information might be used without their knowledge and their web pages might be accessible to other people. Therefore there really isn’t any guaranteed privacy when using this website.

Child safety is also a major concern when facebook is mentioned. Many predators use the use of facebook to disguise themselves as younger people to befriend children. It is easy for a potential predator to fake a profile claiming to have the same interest and be the same age as a child. All children, even high school students should be monitored by parents when using facebook. They are the most vulnerable victims to social predators. If a child accepts a predator’s friendship, that person can find out just about anything they want about a child, including where that child resides.
