Gender and Leadership

Leader is a person who establishes the direction for others to willingly follow. He or she will simultaneously fill many roles interacting, motivating group members, solving conflicts as they arise. So, and it is very difficult to be a leader because you are responsible not just for yourself but for people who follow you. I think that leaders don't become, but they are born because to become a leader it is important to have certain congenital personal qualities. So, what qualities the leader should have and whether gender differentiation influences on having of these qualities? Who are better leader males or females? I will try to answer these questions in my essay.

Looking through information on my theme I have read researches that are females or males better in leadership. And generally there 5 problems that are considered in these researches: 1) frequency of occurrence of men and women in a role of leaders; 2) leadership style of behavior; 3) efficiency of performance of leader’s roles; 4) ambition to leadership and 5) gender identity of leaders. All these theories divided into 3 types: the first consider as the main thing the gender factor, the second prefer leader’s position, and the third consider both factors as equivalent.

In my opinion both of these factors are important, male and female both can be a good leader, it depends on just on leader’s position and leadership style and they are different. But historically men were tending to be a leader and a role of the woman as leader have always been underestimated and wrongly believe that only the man can the leader. Female’s leadership is not better or worth than male’s, it just different and has another direction.

Female leaders are considered to be more 'transformational' leaders than men. That means that they act as role models and encourage employees to develop skills which help to improve productivity. Female leader also encourage participation, share power and information,...
