Self-Evaluation

Summary:

Most of my goals for ballet are just a matter of thinking while I dance and not just going through the movement. This concept applies for the entire class, while I focus on keeping my shoulders down, counting the music, and keeping my knees over my toes. However, attention to detail is not the only factor that I have to work on, I also need to gain the strength and flexibility as well as learning how to get my body to correctly turn out and position my feet. Through dancing smart and hard work, I hope to meet these goals, and thus become a better dancer.

Goal # 1 Musicality:

After many rehearsals for my variations in the competition of the Youth American Grand Prix, as well as classes, and rehearsals for my recent performance of Cinderella, my musicality has greatly improved! I have been able to correctly apply myself to the music the majority of the time and it has become rarely an issue anymore. For this is an obligation of mine and any dancer in order to be in the corps de ballet or dance any role, for an unmusical dancer can never succeed in the dance world. I am so glad to have completed this goal and now I am able to move on to other challenges presented by dance.

Goal # 2 Turn out:

I need to work through my glutes and bring my inner thighs forward in order to have acceptable turn out. I have increased my range of flexibility for turn out since the beginning of this year, but now I need to concentrate on gaining the strength to hold my legs in the position. This goal applies especially for fifth position. I have the habit of just turning out from my lower leg and not from my inner thighs, so my knees face forward while the rest of my leg is out. My turnout has definitely improved overall, yet I must still focus on lengthening the muscle instead of cramping it in order to accomplish perfect turn out.
