In this lab we were proving the conservation of momentum and learning what the effects of momentum are. Momentum is the product of multiplying mass and velocity of an object. Momentum is a vector quantity which means it has a specific direction. If two cars were to hit in a head on collision the momentum of the two cars before will be the same as the momentum of both cars after.

There were nine different collision tested in this lab. The first were with carts of equal mass. Cart one was pushed towards a stationary cart two and the transfer of momentum was done with like magnets that repelled cart two. Cart one came to rest and cart two began to move close to the same speed as cart one.

The second test was between cart one this time with a higher mass and cart 2 which was stationary. When the magnets transferred the momentum from cart one to cart two cart two had a higher velocity than cart one due to its lesser mass.

Collision three was again between cart one this time with a lower mass than the stationary cart two. Cart one was pushed towards cart two which began to move away but at a much slower weight because the mass was larger than that of one.

The fourth interaction was between carts of equal masses moving towards each other. Both carts started with a different velocity and when they were repelled from each other then had very similar velocities.

In collision five the carts no longer used the magnets. They now became one unit. In collision five the carts had an equal mass and one cart started stationary as the other was pushed towards it when the carts connected the velocity became about half of what it was initially due to the increasing in mass.

In collision six the carts also became one unit. Cart two had a higher mass and was still stationary. Cart one collided with the second and they became one unit. Since the mass was so great the velocity decreased significantly.

Collision seven both carts with equal mass were pushed towards each other...
