FINAL LECTURE

RIVET LAYOUT

• Rivet layout consist of determining the number of rivets required the side style of rivet to be use, its material temper condition and strength, distance of rivet holes and rivets from the edge of patch, and spacing of the rivet through-out the repair.

• Distances are measured in term of rivet diameter is determined. When selecting a rivet corresponds in general to the thickness of the metal or material.

EDGE DISTANCE

• Edge distance is the distance from the edge of the metal to the center of first rivet or row of rivets.

RIVET PITCH

• Rivet pitch is the distance between one rivet or row of rivets.

TRANSVERSE PITCH

• Transverse pitch is the distance between the centers of rivet into adjacent row.

NOTE:

• Edge Distance – should not be less than 2RD nor more than 4RD, recommended 2 ½ RD.

• Rivet Pitch – smallest allowable 3RD, usual 6RD to 8RD.

• Transverse Pitch – 75% of the rivet pitch smallest allowable 2 ½ RD.

SINGLE ROW LAYOUT

• First get your edge distance which is 2 ½ rivet diameter on both side for size the rivet you are using, then space the inner part using the 6 to 8 rivet diameter, for your rivet pitch.

• If 6 to 8 rivet diameter will not fit you use 6 to 7 or 6 to 6 as far as you get the correct spacing. As far as you are within the bracket of 6 to 8.

DOUBLE ROW LAYOUT

• Transverse Pitch is the distance between rivet rows and usually equal to 75% of the rivet pitch. The smallest allowable transverse pitch is 2 ½ rivet diameter.
