1. Would you expect his urinary volume to decrease or increase during his trek? Please explain your answer. I would expect Mark’s urinary volume to decrease because he did not have any fluid intake during his trek.

2. Why was Mark’s blood pressure so low? Mark’s pressure was low because he had become dehydrated.

3. Would his pulse rate decrease or increase? Please explain. His pulse rate would increase due to the issue of lack of hydration, it would cause the body to work harder.

4. Why was Mark dizzy and disoriented? Mark was no doubt dizzy and disoriented for two reasons and that was heat stroke from the high temperatures he was exposed to as well as dehydration.

5. Assume that Mark had an unopened six-pack of beer in his car. Would it have been a good idea for Mark to bring the beer along in case he got thirsty? Why or why not? Drinking beer would not have been a good idea simply because beer would have served as a diuretic as opposed to being a source of hydration.

6. What vitamin would Mark have in greater amounts in his body after that day? The sun serves as a source for Vitamin D, so it’s safe to say his levels would have greatly increased.

7. What did Mark do that increased his chance of burns? Mark did not have any sunscreen with him, but the fact that he removed his hat and his shirt he exposed his skin directly to the sun, having no barrier between the two also increased his chance.

8. Why would Mark’s skin have looked red within the first few hours of his adventure rather than redness developing hours and days later as a result of “sunburn”? Because of the degree of the sun he was exposed to.
