A successful company, corporation, franchise, etc. must obviously excel in the selling of goods and/or services but in order to be successful in this field one must also be successful in advertising and/or marketing the products/services in which are trying to be sold. McDonalds Corporation does a fantastic job at both; McDonalds has spent billions of dollars in order to “get their name out there” and as of today with over 33,000 restaurants worldwide, McDonalds Corporation is doing a very good job at it.

The definition of advertising is bringing a product (or service) to the attention of potential and current customers. Advertising is focused on one particular product or service. Thus, an advertising plan for one product might be very different than that for another product. Advertising is typically done with signs, brochures, commercials, direct mailings or e-mail messages, personal contact, etc. (1) The definition of marketing is the wide range of activities involved in making sure that you're continuing to meet the needs of your customers and getting value in return. Marketing is usually focused on one product or service. Thus, a marketing plan for one product might be very different than that for another product. (1) The marketing that is involved into such a large corporation such as McDonalds can be very expensive; McDonalds, over the years, has become one of the leaders around the world in the sport of marketing and advertising, mostly because they are not afraid to spend some money. The McDonalds Corporation spends over 2 billion dollars a year on advertising around the world (2); it is the nation’s largest purchaser of beef, pork, and potatoes - and the second largest purchaser of chicken. The McDonald’s Corporation is the largest owner of retail property in the world. McDonald’s operates more playgrounds than any other private entity in the United States.
