Having to mail the three pages of the letter separately represents segmentation or fragmentation. The recipient receiving all three parts of the letter in order to understand it represents reassembly. The recipient will need to use sequencing in order to put the three pages in chronological order. Paris, France is the network layer address. The actual town that is 25 miles outside Paris is the physical address.

There are seven layers to the OSI model:

Application Layer- is the seventh layer that enables software programs to negotiate formatting, procedural and other requirements with the network.

Presentation Layer- is the sixth layer that serves as a translator between the applications and the network. It also manages data encryption and decryption.

Session Layer- is the fifth layer that establishes and maintains communication, sometimes considered the “traffic cop”.

Transport Layer- is the fourth layer that ensures that data is transferred from one point to another without error. This layer handles flow control, acknowledgement, error correction, segmentation, reassembly, and sequencing.

Network Layer- is the third layer that translates network addresses into their physical counterparts, and determines how to route the data between the sender and the receiver.

Data Link Layer- is the second layer that bridges the networking media with the Network Layer. It divides data into frames that can be transmitted by the Physical Layer.

Physical Layer- is the first layer that generates and detects signals, in order to send and receive data. It also sets the transmission rate and monitors errors, but does not correct the errors.

The sending of the letter by the first secret agent and the receipt by the second is the Physical Layer. The three separate letters through the mail system are the Data Link Layer. The knowledge of the encrypted information known by both agents is the Application Layer. The information (encryption and decryption) on the letter...
