Introduction

With the advent of mobile technologies in the recent decades, the way we as businesses and consumers are able to conduct daily tasks are greatly changing. Even more recently, in the past few years, we have shifted from basic cellular phones (generally capable of calling and text), moving to smartphones and tablet devices that are able to complete a variety of complex tasks that could previously only be done on a laptop or computer. This advancement in technology allows us to be on the go and still be able complete the tasks we need to by using mobile devices and tablets.

I am the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for ABC Bank. ABC Bank is a large commercial bank that operates in the United States and offers a variety of business and consumer services. As CIO, it is my job to make sure that the information technology and computer systems are optimized and ensure support of the organization. Currently, our consumer banking services are supported on computers, tablets, and mobile devices. However, the advancing technologies have resulted in a shift in consumer banking access preferences. Overall trends in technology usage of consumers have lead to an increase in the mobile and tablet device usage, leaving the desktops and laptops decreasing in popularity. This shift in usage leads to a new problem with dealing of securities on the mobile platform (which is mobile phones and tablet devices that use mobile networks) because sending out personal information over the cellular network. Our current cellular networks have a packet switched core that is connected to external networks, including the internet, which makes it prone to attacks like denial of service, viruses, worms, etc. that are commonly used on the internet.
