“Ignorance Can Be Deadly!”

What parent could bear the thought of being a contributor of their families’ poor health condition that could lead to death? Nevertheless, I see this destructive pattern happening everyday all around me regarding minorities and the way they allow their families to eat, especially their children. Eventually, the entire family will be obese and severely sick with hypertension, asthma, heart disease or Type 2 diabetes. Minorities makes poor eating choices, some are due to unemployment, low income and society marketing and advertising of, “Cheap Food.” Researchers have shown the effects of diabetes on complications of cardiovascular disease is more severe among members of most ethnic minority groups in western countries as among populations of developing countries where an increased waist-to-hip ratio is a strong predicator of, “ischemic heart disease.”

Fast Food, Poverty, and Job Discrimination are destroying our young generation, even though others may argue differently.

A contributor of obesity in the minority community is the, “Fast Food Industry. “ Marketing has played a major role in enticing the general public with advertisements and campaigns. Obesity in minorities is at an all time high. Some could argue that obesity is caused by laziness of technology; fewer people use their body at home because of a sedentary life style. Also, some will argue that a change in diet such as more fats, carbohydrates and processed food could trigger obesity.
