Summary

The book I read was A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer. This book really opened my eyes to what can go on in people’s lives. It was hard to even imagine half of the things he went through. Dave, the child, told the time of his mom making him come home and throw up any food he ate because she didn’t want him to have any food. She also made him drink ammonia. She stabbed him in the stomach and also made him sleep on a cot downstairs and beat him every day. The father of the child tried some days to save him from his mom, but most of the time the father was at work or at the bar. The mother had 2 other sons that she didn’t beat or treat like she did Dave. She taught the other boys to treat Dave like she did. She made Dave make up excuses at school for his bruises and when they asked him if he was being abused he would lie and say no because she had him believing it was his fault for what she did to him. The school at first thought that he was a bad child because he would come to school and steal food out of the kid’s lunch boxes. One day, the teacher who found he was not a bad kid sent him to the nurse to get all of his bruises and cuts looked at and he is the one who saved his life by looking past him stealing and believed hit gut feeling and called the police and had him taken away from his mother.

In the beginning, Dave denied being abused but after some time with the officer, he came out and told the police officer that was helping him everything that had been going on for years. After several hours talking with the officer and telling him all he has experienced by his mom and brothers, the officer called his mom and told her what was going on.
