Case Analysis of Monsanto

Monsanto is the largest agrochemical company around the globe. The company is known for its genetically modified seeds. The company made revenue of more than 8.6 billion dollars in 2009. As years passed, Monsanto changed in a lot of ways. The company was founded by John F. Queeny in 1901 in St. Louis.

Monsanto aimed at maximizing profits just like other businesses focus on gaining. To achieve this goal, the company ensures that farmers continue to use its products. Aggressive promotion is the strategy used by the company to promote genetically engineered seeds and biotechnology. Their products get expired from time to time so that farmers are forced to purchase new products of the same range.

There are many risks involved with genetically engineered products. There risks affect human health, environment and the farming system. Overall, these products are not safe to be used by farmers, especially those in the developing countries who lack any knowledge in reference to these products.

Other than the above information, the company is known to have a shameful history in spreading pollution. The company is known to pollute waters and town and for the toxic chemicals that are emitted to the environment. The company is also well known for introducing and following its own laws. Its executives hold more power than any government on earth. Monsanto also bullies countries and farmers. It has aims of controlling farmers, environment, its customers and the whole food chain.

Globally, public movements are increasing to restrict or decrease the mean attitudes of Monsanto and other firms that are known for their mean attitude and working to promote their own needs and of the richest people in the developed countries. Public demands that the needs of humans, animals, environment should be given the priority.
