Introduction

Hello, my name is Lew Frankfort. I am the 66 year old Chairman and CEO of Coach, Inc. I was born and raised in Bronx, NY and am the son of a policeman and housewife (Gottfried, 2012). I received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hunter College in 1967 and an MBA in Marketing from Columbia University in 1969 (Coach, 2012). After graduation I went to work for the City of New York. Under the watchful eyes of my first mentor, whose goal was to “satisfy the greater social good”, I rose through the ranks to become Commissioner of the Agency of Child Development (Coach, 2012). Hill (2004) stated that it in this initial managerial position when leadership style is cultivated. In 1979, I left New York City government to work for a friend of a friend at Coach, Inc., after being skipped over for a major promotion by former Mayor Koch (Gottfried, 2012). I initially started as the Vice-President of New-Business Development at Coach and 33 years later I have transformed the brand into a premium global accessary company generating 4.8 billion in revenue this year (Coach, 2012).

Abilities, Traits and Experience

I describe myself as “passionate, determined, single-minded, knowledge-driven and curious” (Serchuk, 2005). While in college in the sixties, I marched for civil rights and opposed the Vietnam War (Gottfried, 2012).Treating others with respect and maintaining ethical standards are principals by which I live. In fact, the reason why I initially attracted to Coach was because the leader at the time, who became another mentor, was known for his strong business ethics and treating employees with respect (Gottfried, 2012). The Coach brand represents quality, value and authenticity. The values that are important to my company are integrity, teamwork, innovation, and customer contentment (Coach, 2012). These are values that I lead by.
