In 2003 the Australian and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) purchased the National Bank of New Zealand (NBNZ). Since then they have been operation as separate banks but in September this year it was announced that the National Bank of New Zealand would change it’s name to ANZ over the next two years. The Melbourne based ANZ is classified as a large-scale organisation as they employ 46,917 staff, has A$531.739 billion in assets, and have various locations in Australia and overseas. The merger is happening now because the trademark a black horse and green colour branding, which was licensed from British bank Lloyds TSB, expires in 2014. The merger will change the operations and image of the bank, much like the acquisition did.

The internal environment of an organisation refers to the things that the company has some degree of control over. It is the conditions of the inside of the organisation that affect its performance. The internal environment includes management policies and process. When the acquisition of NBNZ occurred the internal management of the organisation would have remained similar to what it was before the acquisition. In the next two years the two banks will merge fully to become the one bank, ANZ. It will be unlikely that lower and frontline management will differ, but upper and executive management will most likely change with the merger. As the two companies are run separately, they merger will see the leaders of the organisation become one. The style of management may change from a functional one to a divisional one, focusing on a geographical grouping. Two different corporate cultures will be coming together and it will be impotent to retain elements from both such as values and rituals. The symbols of the organisation will change, as the NBNZ BANK will now adopt the ANZ branding.
