MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Abstract

Airports across America are very valuable to its community regardless of size. One airport that is a world leading commercial airport is Miami International Airport (MIA). To maintain its’ status MIA’s management must uphold the standards of their operation including airside and landside, their safety and security, their budget and finances and their community role as a whole in order to determine if they are meeting the needs of their society and passengers.

MIA in a nutshell

Miami International Airport (MIA) is the leading public use airport in Florida, located in the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County. Many travelers use this airport, whether they are enjoying a vacation, working for their trade, or just connecting/transferring flights. Miami is the home of many tourist locations and the main portal for cruise ships. According to Miami International Airports’ main webpage, “MIA is the largest U.S. gateway for Latin America and the Caribbean and is one of the leading international passenger and freight airports in the world.” There are many air services, airlines, shops, business services and hotels located in and around the surrounding area and in the airport to meet passenger and community needs. To keep current with these demands, MIA is a part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS).

As stated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) report to Congress for 2011-2015, the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) is a program that “identifies 3,380 public-use airports that are significant to national air transportation and, therefore, eligible to receive grants under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP)” (P.11).
