Harley-Davidson has constructed a successful business based on the concept of good customer service and high quality products. Core values, short and long term goals and the mission statement of the company are the guidelines which are a common objective for all stakeholders. The ability for Harley-Davidson to align these goals and objectives with the principles of the businesses operation will assure the financial success of the company.

Harley-Davidson Values Statement

The Harley-Davidson value system consists of five company-wide written values they are (1) tell the truth, (2) be fair, (3) keep promises, (4) respect individuals, and (5) encourage intellectual curiosity. These values are universal in the company and govern their relationship with employees, investors, buyers and dealers (BNET, 2008). By listing values, defining them and then defining some of the key behaviors that exhibit that value in practice, Harley gives staff and clients something tangible with which to work with. At the same time this effort shows that the company is serious enough to put their beliefs in writing (BNET, 2008). Using these principles Harley-Davidson’s organization can expand revenues, increase the size of operations, and gain more market presence.

The value of providing employees with an enjoyable work environment and the ability to treat each other with respect and dignity is in alignment with Harley-Davidson’s strategic efforts to provide quality training to each and every employee. Those desiring to train for a better position will be provided adequate training to meet the high expectations of creating a quality product for each and every customer. In addition, higher salaries will increase moral and compensate for the expertise required to provide high quality products to customers.
