Fagbug Analysis

The film Fagbug is about a woman named Erin Davies, and a hate crime that happened to her. One morning when she woke up and went out to her VW Beetle, she saw the words, “u r gay” and “fag” spray painted on her vehicle. At first disturbed by this, Davies later uses it to gain awareness for gays by driving her Beetle across the country. It’s quite compelling how a little hate crime like that can be so widespread and impactful.

First of all, the amount of feedback Davies received by this incident astounded me. She was right away interviewed by the local news, which put her on the state spotlight. Also, the amount of letters and emails she received was astonishing. Davies said she received around 300 emails and responses a day on her website. Most of the people said that they were truly inspired by how brave she was. I have to say I’m inspired as well. I can’t imagine how she felt driving through foreign states not knowing how people would react. I think that the gay community saw it as a personal act instead of a whole community act. Therefore, the gay community did not donate any money to her, and also her friend even started a boycott against her. This is what I found confusing. Why would Davies own friend boycott against her?

Over all the film had a great message for everyone. First, it gave the message that everyone should be open minded and accepting. There are many different type of people out in the world. If those people...
