Functions of Management and Roles of Management

When considering functions of management one should have a vast understanding that there are four essential functions, planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, that are crucial to any functioning organization. More importantly I feel it applies to the non-profit organization. Due to such a close eye being kept on nonprofits by the government I believe management is crucial to non-profit organizations. When you can understand the importance of of the four functions of management, the organizations mission can be met. These four concepts of management, translated into functions lead to the creation of a cohesive organization, which smoothly achieves its objectives. (Anonymous, ND)

Planning

Planning allows organizations such as non-profits to build off a steady base of circumstances, goals, or possible obstacles that could be put into place. Planning allows management to both anticipate and respond to surprises so that a nonprofit can preserve from surprising threats all that it has already achieved and also capitalize on surprising opportunities to reach its full future potential (HEAD,ND) With non-profits, being able to effectively plan is crucial, vast financial planning must occurs along with what activities, events, and payouts must occur. Once planning is set forth it allows organizations to outline opportunities for the future and ensuring the most is being made of the program.

Organizing

Next, management will begin to organize the planning process in order to make plans occur. With our non-profit the organization process is then discussed and put together by a board that will coordinate and organize so that the non-profit is sustainable and successful.
