Abstract

Ethics is a very important role in any organization no matter the size or stature. It is the role of every employee, manager, board member, and stockholder of the organization. Although there are many levels of ethics all are important. Ethics is what makes and organization thrive and remain successful. An organization has a responsibility to its customers as well as its staff to uphold ethical standards. Having an ethical statement keeps an organization on the right path. This statement must carry value although it is not the one thing that makes the organizational ethical but it serves as the foundation.

Organizational Ethics

Most organizations have a set of standards that governs the way their business is conducted on a daily basis. These standards are called a code of ethics. Ethics involve the “concept of right and wrong behavior” (Wrenn, 2012). Organizations have a social responsibility in regards to the ethics of their business, employees, and society. I want to know how businesses keep their integrity while keeping the consumer satisfied.

Many people rely on feelings when it comes to making ethical decisions. Some rely on religious beliefs while others may rely on the golden rule “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Brown, 1996). While failing to realize not everyone have the same religious beliefs this could become inadequate judgment. Ethics is referred to as “a field of inquiry or discipline….matters of right and wrong, good and evil, virtue and vice is systematically examined” (Goodpaster, 1992).
