"There is, perhaps, no college decision that is more thought-provoking, gut wrenching and rest-of-your life oriented--or disoriented--than the choice of a major." (St. John, 2000, p.22) But in making this decision, there are things that are important to be considered. A major turning point in adolescents' lives involves the career choice that they make while in high school. Frequently, it is viewed by family and community as a mere start to workplace readiness; however, this decision plays a major role in establishing youth in a career path that opens as well as closes opportunities. (Bluestein, Phillips, Jobin-Davis, Finkelberg, & Roarke, 1997). And in present times, having a diploma is one of the requirements into landing a job or career.

Tyrell-Smith (2011) emphasized that knowing where your natural talents lie is the key to choosing the career/course. As we all know everyone has natural talents, certain tasks that come easy on us. So in decision-making process, this one factor should be considered.

Browne (2011) said that when exploring career/course options, one should also consider how it matches his interest. These are things that one enjoys doing and are passionate about that can provide important clues about work or career interests.

Parents are the most important influencers on a young person’s career decisions. This influence comes through your interactions with them and through your values and beliefs, your comments and your encouragement of their use of their strengths and interests (www.careers.govt.nz 2002). Friends or peers are also strong influencers. Peer pressure can sometimes limit young people’s career aspirations. Students want to fit in and be accepted by their peers (Maslow, 1943, p. 371).
