What are the prospects and limits of my power as a Democratic Citizen?

Before I start talking about the prospects and limits of my power as a Democratic Citizen, I would just like to identify first what Democracy is. For me, Democracy basically means the government by the people. With my curiosity, I also decided to research for the basic definition of Democracy. It says there that Democracy is “a form of government that is made for the people and ran by the people. The public decides what they believe should be law and enforce it.” I believe that this definition agrees on how I personally and basically define Democracy a while ago. However, to further explain it in my own understanding, a single democratic individual does not have the power to be heard. In order to be heard by our leaders, I would say that all democratic individuals should gang up. In other words, the public majority are the ones who will be always heard. I am sure all of us have already heard the famous tag line of President Aquino, “Kayo ang boss ko!” Regarding with this, we still have not heard someone saying (name of a person) will decide but instead, we always hear them say it is the people or the public who will decide.

As a prospect of my power as a democratic citizen, I would say that it is a given power by this democratic country to me to take advantage of my rights. However, instead of exercising this power, some citizens including me were being ignorant of it. I really love watching the news about our country but after seeing and hearing the negative updates, I would just do other fun things. I would just stay at home and watch all the movies I want instead of joining the rallies in EDSA. I believe this in an act of being an ignorant citizen and being it limits my power as a democratic citizen of this country.
