The Philosophy of My Life

It’s very hard for a person not to reflect on their past life. A life that many cannot control until they reach a certain age. Coming from a poor, dysfunctional family I truly understand this. As a young child I knew the way I was being raised was not right and that there was another way of life. I just didn’t know where it was or how long it would take me to get it. I now realize that the life I once lived is simply that, the past, I cannot change it. The only thing I can do is learn from it. After seeing what it was that I was missing my whole life it helped me to realize the way that I will treat my own children. I will love my children unconditionally. I will give them affection, love, praise, and encouragement rather than belittling them. I will be their support system and backbone. Life is a journey, not a destination.

So what is the philosophy of life? I really don’t know. This can be interpreted in many different way. The book says, “A philosophy of life is made up of the fundamental beliefs, attitudes, and values that govern a person’s behavior” (Corey and Corey, 380). We as people are different in many ways and my philosophy of life is way different than what someone else might believe just because of our attitude and values that affect our behavior. Our philosophy of life will never be complete instead it will be forever changing as we grow older and become wiser.

I often times wonder how I became the person that I am today considering the way I was raised. My early childhood years were something that I can remember like it was yesterday.
