The Importance of Love in Life

From the past to the present, love continues to exist in every culture on earth. People cannot touch or see love, but even though love is invisible, it is very powerful. Love can warm people’s lives, help friends to overcome difficult times, and encourage people to view life in a positive way. As a result of its importance, love is a common theme throughout literature—whether focusing on loving nature, romance, friendship, or love between family members—it is clear in literature that people cannot survive without love.

Normally, most people think of love as the relationship between people, but loving nature is also important. This is clear in the poem “The World is Too Much With Us” by William Wordsworth as he reminds human being that we should care more about nature. Wordsworth mentions how human beings only think of materialism now and have lost the connection they used to have with nature. Wordsworth says, “Little we see in Nature that is ours/We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!”(Line 3-4). This shows how human beings have lost their connection with nature entirely. Throughout the poem Wordsworth keeps on developing this idea of how people view nature in a different way from the ancient pagan Gods. According to the editor, Sara Constantakis, of the article “Overview: The World Is Too Much with Us,” concludes that “People spend too much time acquiring these kinds of material goods; they spend too much time being consumers of whatever products are sold in the marketplace. In other words, the poet makes a complaint against the materialism of the culture.” Wordsworth is communicating how human beings should love and care for nature.
