Segment I Week 1 – 5, 8/23 – 9/22/11 Vanitas and the Still Life, dry mediums Segment II Week 6 – 10, 9/27 -10/28/11 Emotions and Feelings and the portrait, Proportion and Point of View studies, dry and wet mediums and color Segment III Week 11 – 14 ; 11/1 – 11/22/11 Tower of Babel and Perspective, collage, frottage and other mediums as needed Final project presentation week 15 11/29 -12/1. Final: All portfolio review 12/8/2011 6:00 – 8:50 p.m. Watt 118 • • • • • Symbolism and objects (historic meets contemporary) Still life arrangement (classic – contemporary) Drawing methods and compositional concepts/strategies Materials: Ebony pencil, pink pearl eraser, kneaded eraser, 9 x 12 sketchbook Other drawing paper will be designated per assignment.

Weekly Schedule of classes and assignments. Week ONE : introductions and assignments:

Class 1 Tues. 8/23/11 In class: intros: faculty and student • Lecture: Examples of different drawing methods Class Assignment 1. • Exercises in drawing techniques: additive and subtractive methods using contour line, tonal shading, and toned paper. Review of Class Assignment 1. (please follow this protocol for the entire semester) • Sign your drawing, date and assignment number on the front. • Photo document your drawing using the copy stand. • Place your drawing on the designated wall • Take your drawing with you, unless asked to do otherwise. • You will need all of your drawings, both Class Assignments and HW assignments for your final portfolio review.
