A wise man once quoted the only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows (Thum, 2013). This man went by the name of Gautama Buddha. With Buddha’s wise teaching he would live on to create a whole different way of life, which would later on become to be considered as a religion. This quote is very powerful because this is part of the reason why he lives on in the Buddhist religion till this day. He was determined to stop all suffering on earth. Buddha was born into a royal Hindu family, to which he lived inside the walls of this kingdom till his age as a young adult. It wasn’t until the age of 29 where he went outside the walls to experience a life that was unknown to him. After this he set out to explore the life other than his own to see it from a different perspective. It was thru this decision he made where he gained and learned all of his teachings that are now shared throughout the world to this day. Three things that helped him gain perspective were the reality of life, his compassion and the gain of wisdom.

The reality of life is the first one that he had encountered, way before he had even known it. Buddha hadn’t had a relationship with his mother due to the fact that she had passed away after giving birth to him. Since he was to young, he didn’t quite understand it. But as he became older this situation became a big truth he had to face. Until he had went outside the walls of the kingdom he was unaware of illnesses that people could get, the fact that people grew old and didn’t always remain young or even the harsh reality of death. The fact that all these things had been happening all this time and he had just been introduced to it had opened Buddha’s eyes to reality. After this he had left his family and set out to venture to the world living the homeless life as a monk, looking for understanding of suffering and ways to overcome these unfortunate events.
