In a world full of love, righteousness, kindness, selfless and holy people, contracts are useless. However, in the fallen world we live in, greed and manipulation makes it difficult to live without contracts or legal documents. In this case study, Don (who is not a Christian) is influenced by his wife (who is a Christian) to visit a church that I teach. During a conversation after church, I discovered that Don owns a small local health food products store and offered my product of Scupperhog grapes to expand his product line. After thinking it off for a little while, Don graciously accepted and a business relationship was developed. The product was doing very well and bringing in many new customers. As business continues to rise, Don does the unthinkable without my awareness. During a delivery, my son who is 17 years old is forced by Don to sign a contract, which guaranteed Don price and delivery schedule of the products. This becomes an issue after the NY Times writes an article acknowledging the tasty grapes. This recognition was followed by an attractive offer from a company in Connecticut, who is willing to be pay twice the going rate as long as I sign an output contract. The dilemma lies with the question on whether I uphold my son signature or part ways with Don.

Legal Perspective

The legal action in this study stems from the contract signed by my 17year old son during a delivery to Don. A contract is an agreement between two parties with the intention of creating a legal obligation, which may be in writing or oral. If I decided not to honor my son signature, Don can take legal action against my company and damage it in two ways: Financially and Credibility. In business, reputation is crucial for partnering with other companies and legal action could damage that in a significant way.
